Pushing the early limit of Orient Pear

July 15 2014 I picked my first three Orient pears. They were not full size but the color had lightened. After three days of counter time, the Grands and I decided to give them a taste test. To my surprise they were softening a little and the taste was not bad. In about a week I will test about three more. It is amazing how much bigger they are now than on the 15th. I am looking for either apples or pears that ripen as early as possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill

I'm eating Gingergold apple. I like it better than Gala and it's 2-3 wks earlier. Needs picking just as it turns yellow. Nice sweet tart balance and pretty sweet. Also big fruit. Down here with lack of chilling it finished blooming about July 4th. Dozens of flower clusters in July and now eating the first bloom apples. Pretty amazing.

Fruitnut. The sweet tart balance is my preference also. I have a small Gala tree that is starting to fruit but it only offers the sweet side and does not appear to have much disease resistance. I'm thinking about top working it with a variety that is early and more to my liking such as the Gingergold. Thanks, Bill
