| Hello everyone, I'm completely new to gardening and have "newbie" question. Someone gave me a young (approximately 2yr old) avocado plant grown from seed which was never pruned. It stands approximately 3 feet tall and rather than have one trunk it has three, approximately equal diameter (about 5/8") which all start within about an inch of the soil and run the whole height of the tree. My question is- should I prune two of the three stalks or just let it grow as is? Also, if it makes any difference, I wouldn't consider any one of the stalks to be dominant over the others. |

| mc...I think the choice to prune is yours. I would wait until January to do radical pruning. This allows the tree to grow and roots to flourish this summer before slowing down in winter. Be advised...an ungrafted fruit tree almost always gives unsatisfactory fruit...if at all. |
