I finding that size depends on how well you care for them. My unnamed strawberries produced thumb nail sized berries for two years, but this year they doubled in size. The biggest I have are what I think are ozark beauty. Seems to do the best with competition compared to the two unnamed kinds any my seed grown patio temptation

I have a couple of small plantings of 'Jewel' strawberry and they have performed well (e.g. decent size, great flavor, limited disease) for me despite my neglect. They are june-bearing.
|
I like Jewel too. I only have a few, I don't have much desire to try others. I get so many now, most are not huge. Elan F1 was good last year, not so much this year. Many huge strawberries in my garden are of unknown cultivars as I moved runners, and they all got mixed up.

I picked up 25 Jewel strawberry plugs from Henry Fields last year for $2.50 and thought I didn't have much to lose by trialing them. All 25 plants lived, multiplied, and produced over two gallons of fruit this year with little to no care. I'm not suggesting that's the way to grow them but despite my lack of effort, these berries seem pretty easy to grow. I may transplant them to a better location during late Fall where I can manage them better. Weeds seem like the biggest problem to manage.

I decided to order some from Nourse yesterday. I have quite a few plants that I received from UCD last year and they are fabulous, but small. On a whim I decided to order them after reading these posts:
