Almond tree

I would like to grow an almond tree and be able to (someday) harvest almonds for eating. I live in zone 6. I presume ill have to grow this almond tree in a container and bring it in during the winter? Is it possible to plant it in zone 6? What type of almond tree does anyone reccommend for my intentions?
