I seem to have two things going on with my espalier. This is the most Concerning though....it is one of the main branches. Any ideas on what it might be and how to treat it?

Looks like a physical injury. If that's the only spot it got hit by something. If more spots like that possibly hail. Nothing that can be done at this point.

What kind of tree is that? If you got a wound, you would clean it and bandage it up. You might try a nice application of alcohol and then wrap it with grafting tape. Maybe it will heal.

I would let the wound heal itself with no intervention from you. I have a friend with a few hundred trees pounded by hail. Some were first year. They are covered with damage worse that this. We did nothing, and all are moving forward.

Thanks everyone! I can't imagine what would damage it at that spot, as we haven't had any precipitation, much less hail in a very long time! I will just keep an eye on it and hope for the best :)
