I have 5 Summercrisp pears that are around 15 years old. I've always picked them in late August, as per most recommendations, but note that the fruit still seems slightly unripe in flavor even when finished out in single layer boxes in my cool shed; definitely not a great Bartlett pear flavor. Any hints? Does anyone ripen on the tree or use better ripening techniques?

Bobhei: You mention Summercrisp that are 15 year old trees but the subject line says Luscious pear. Which one is it? I grow Summercrisp. Mine are ripe generally around August 20th in SE WI. IF your question is about Summercrisp, they should be picked at firm ripe stage and I find I can pick and store them in the refrigerator for about I just checked mine last Thursday as we are near the picking time. A few more days are needed for my crop.

Sorry about the confusion as I have both types but need your guidance on the SC. Thank you. I plan to harvest this Wednesday.
