Strawberry plants not in ground

I bought 2 strawberry plants back in May along with a large planter, I figured I'd let them start in there and then transplant them in the ground once I had a spot for them. Well now it's the end of August and they're still in their planter! I know I can't put them in the ground now, so what are my options? I read that you can keep them inside and let go dormant to bring back in Spring. There are several runners which I'd hate to cut off but I guess that's what will end up happening. They're so lush and full of potential for next year, I'd hate to just let them die!

Thanks in advance!
