Beautiful MrsG. Is this an old photo? I cannot imagine you are just now picking them in Z7. I picked my Montmorency at least a month ago here in Z6. I don't know about RI, but here it's extremely difficult to beat the birds to them. Next year I'm going to net them. I love them in pies and cobblers! |

Hi! I took the picture last month. I tented the entire tree. It was the only way to save the cherries. My orchard looks like fairyland right with my netted trees and berries. Aren't they delish! Mrs. G

That bird netting is kinda pricey. I found the black nylon/plastic netting on ebay pretty reasonable...is that what you are using MrsG?

Appleseed, no I use white mesh netting from Home Depot. It is about thirty feet by fifteen feet for thirteen dollars a roll. They call it white mesh netting. It slides over the tree and slides right off for folding and re-use. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow and post it on my peach post. Mrs. G PS the black netting is horrible!

Greetings: I ended up with 7.5 quarts (measured after pitting) this year on my North Star cherry. Lite crop partially due to bacterial blight which I cannot seem to control. I use the black ross bird netting on all of my cherry trees. They make it in China. The old nets I have are thicker and stiff making it easy to fold up for storage. I bought some new ones last year and one more this year. Really not happy with them as thin and theykeep rolling back up on their own. Will not stay flat. We had a bad wind and one of the new ones was torn on the windy side. I love the old Ross netting but not happy about their product they put out now.
