The soil texture and water table where you live will determine how often often and how much water you apply to your trees. The age or size of the trees, and tree type also need to be considered. calistoga, thanks - how would you determine if you have a high or low water table?

Confused: You can tell your water table by digging a hole. Trouble is that a high water table is anything around 3-8ft deep, so you might need a very deep hole. In a clay loam soil, 6-8 ft would be considered a high water table and you would need little irrigation. In a sandy soil, 3-6ft would be the same.

If you have a high water table it should be common knowledge in your area.
