Sick B. Tartartarian cherry tree

All my fruit trees are doing well after surviving a terrible grasshopper infestation with the exception of one Black Tartarian cherry tree. It, along with another B. Tart., Bing, a Lambert, and a Rainier cherry are thriving and still growing new leaves. I did not use poison on the the trees due to the many blue-birds in the area. I use hot-sause spray. The B. Tartarian tree which had all its leaves eaten off fully recovered and is growing many new leaves. The other B. Tart. which survived the hoppers well is struggling now. These trees were bare root plants planted in April in well- drained sandy loamy soil. They are watered every 3-4 days when its hot. The tree having trouble was planted where I had a burn pile. It has a more than normal amount of charcoal. Do these trees need fertilizer before winter? I live in the pacific northwest, 90 miles from the Canadian border.

There is not much you can do. Cherries can go dormant early if they are having trouble, and then start over next spring. So, if the tree has buds on it and the wood is green, just wait for next spring for it to recover. They can do this because they come from a short season climate, they expect summer to be very short.
