Surround does a pretty good job if kept up regularly. I should have done it this year as about half of my asian pears are gnarled.

Bifenthrin and zeta-cypermethrin is effective. It was permitted last year or the year before for I think 3 sprays. Dinotefuran is effective but very, very expensive.

I'm assuming you are talking about brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB)....right?
I'm assuming this because you are in 6A and they are getting heavier in population density about now.

Thanks. I had considered Surround but was curious if there was another option becoming available. I have numerous species of stinkbugs but suspect tohe BMSB is the culprit on the pears. Most of my acreage is dedicated to raising assorted cucurbits, so I usually have loads of stinkbugs. However, their presence this year seems to be smaller--bitter winter/drought?????

I've found this to be a difficult problem. I've been using permethrin and Once and Done sprays during the same intervals that I spray my apples for apple maggot but without good control. I've found that there's a strong variety preference - they like Kosui - so that nearly my entire Kosui crop is destroyed, but the other varieties are largely unaffected. I don't know whether having the Kosui is detrimental by luring them to the tree or helpful by acting as a sacrificial crop to protect the other varieties.

I agree brook...less BMSB this year...SO FAR. I've also noticed that they are physically smaller as well. I just spotted a few nymphs maybe a 2 weeks ago. They might be just ramping up.
