| I am on the west side of Washington State. I am pruning my sweet cherry trees. I heard that it is best to spray the wound with a fungicide after cutting. There are several types of fungicides. What type of fungicide would be best? Does it matter? Also how best to sterilize my pruners between trees? A mixture of Alcohol, Bleach, or something else? |

| There is no need to spray with fungicide now. As dry as it is at this time of year in western WA, fungal issues are highly unlikely. And provided you are pruning correctly, the tree is best able to counteract any wound on its own. Much better to spray with a dormant season product if you need to or when the fungal pathogens are active or present. What are you spraying for, anyway? And any disinfectant can be used - rubbing alcohol, bleach, Lysol, etc. |
