Leafy peach tree

Lorraine Miller

Tree seems to be growing, removed branches to make sure there was venitilation. It is just getting taller, it is in a pot, do I cut the branches back or wait until the leaves fall off. Do I replant it in a larger pot now or during the spring? How long does it usually take for peaches to begin to grow? Iam told three or four years. Will the tree look this way every year for the next three or four years if it remains healthy? It will always be in a pot, . I want to maintain control of its growth since I have a small patio. Wondering how large it will get in the pot

In a pot the tree will only get so big. For me about 5ft tall and wide in a 15 gal. Then they just quit or nearly so. They won't get totally out of bounds like a tree in the ground.

I'd shorten those lower branches next spring. Just nip back flimsy branches that are too weak to support a fruit anyway.

Then when vigor drops too low and it will, repot and/or prune back major limbs to force new growth.
