You can plant in fall. Also you might want to check with lucky_p in KY. I believe he stated recently that he finds southern high bush much more productive than rabbiteyes. The later is grown in eastern TX for the late bloom and drought tolerance.

Maybe someone with firsthand experience will chime in if we keep the thread up top a little longer.

It might be helpful to some to note that the Reka blueberry appears to be holding up very well at this point - the best out of the 5 NHB that I picked. It has only a little brown on a few leaf tips with just about all the leaves in tact. The Chandler and Aurora look like toast with over half the leaves gone and the rest with lots of brown. The Toro is doing ok. It doesn't look great but it hasn't lost many leaves and looks overall like it could recover easily. I also have a Bluecrop but it was 'pruned' by wildlife earlier in the year so I don't have much foliage to examine.

As mentioned before, all the blueberries were left to the elements. It wasn't a particularly dry season so I thought there was no need to hurry to get a rain barrel but this was also my first blueberry adventure. There was no supplemental watering.

Perhaps I will keep the particularly tough NHBs and add a few Rabbiteyes and SHBs to the mix.
