If I bought rootstock of different fruit/ornamental tree and tried to sprout them, will they grow on their own into trees? (It would be the wild-type, but i'm not really interested in the fruit)

Yes..or at least if i think i understand what you are saying. If you buy a named tree (grafted) and if you removed that graft and were left with only the rootstock and then you grew that out, you'd have a tree... that may fruit at some point, but might not taste that good.

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm looking at buying bulk rootstock from a trusted mail order business. Would they still sprout? The quality f the fruit is of no importance, whatever comes out I am not particular, if a tomatoe pops out of an apple m111 rootstock, so be it. I just want to know, will the tomatoe pop out, or will I be left with some very expensive compost? Don't take the message literally.

Yes you can plant a rootstock and get fruit from it. I've planted Antonovka apple rootstock for wildlife food.

If you search for it, complete descriptions of common apple root stocks often include the actual qualities of the tree it comes from, right down to the fruit. It might be more fun to grow your own seedlings though. But in answering you question, yes, they will grow into trees, no matter what variety or species of rootstock. They are all trees in their own right. I wonder why you'd choose the give them space, though. They were selected for their value as rootstocks, not landscape trees. If you want cheap trees I suggest you try your soil and conservation district tree sale.

Yes they are regular trees and will grow as such.

Adeniumguy: just out of curiosity, why would you want to bother with this anyway? I mean...if you don't care about the fruit, why buy a fruit tree rootstock? Do you just want wildlife food? If so, there are better ways of accomplishing that and if you just want a tree, there would be far better trees to be had for sure. If you just wanted an ornamental, there are many quality ornamental trees to choose from. I'm puzzled.
