Are all currants edibile?

I have what my Horticulture professor ID'ed as an alpine currant. It was a volunteer seedling that I found in a mixed woodland setting. Last year it started to set fruit. I tasted it and it was a bit tart. I'm wondering if I can use this to make jelly with. Anyone know for sure if Alpine currants are edible?

Yes, it is edible, but most consider it to be unpalatable. Sounds like the one you tasted was not bad if it was just tart, as so many tart berries make great jelly!

Thanks for the response. This years berries are nearly all gone. But next year I think I'll be setting some aside for jelly.
