Great looking fruit. That Flavor Heart sure has a beak on it. You could poke out an eye with that baby. What more can you tell us about Apex plumcot? It's huge looking. I've never heard of it.

I grew out Apex and it was mealy and tasteless. Ace, I'd like to hear if yours is any better, I may have had a dud scion. I have another Burbank plumcot that is a bit better, its a purple-skinned one. Scott

Please let us know what you think of the pears when you harvest. That Asian looks large. Heck so does the Euro. Great pics. Scape

I have to admit, I'm green round the edges, just wish I could grow stuff like that.

| Ooh, the Ambrosia Pear looks lovely. Probably not a variety for us on the West Coast, but sure looks lovely. I have planted pears because of Fire Blight. Yes, I know there are blight-resistant varieties, so maybe I'll start looking for one or two to add to my little orchard. But this variety sure looks great. Can you tell us a bit more about it? | Scott, "Apex" was mealy and tasteless for me, and also for several other people I know who grew it from CRFG exchange scionwood. It is possible that the "mother" tree at Prusch Park is misidentified, but perhaps it is just an intrinsically mediocre fruit. Let's hope that the unique soil and climate on Long Island result in an exquisite-tasting harvest! |

I'm envious. How do they taste?

The Apex Plumcot is a Luther Burbank plum apricot cross circa early 1900's. It's very productive, large, early and tastes good. Not a complex flavor, tastes the same throughout the flesh. Probably does better in high heat but good for the early season. The Flavor Heart has turned dark dark purple. I hope it doesn't crack the tree is growing nicely with great structure. Ripens in about a month. The Ambrosia is sold only by Gurneys. They say it blows away Bartlet. Gurneys Crisp and sweet pear is a winner one of my faves. I should get some ripe Ambrosia pears by the end of this month. The Mishirusu pear is still growing. Supposed to pick in mid Sept. I hope it is as good as it looks.

So how did the Mishirasu pear turn out? I'm curious. It looks different from the Mishirasu in Raintree's catalog.

Most of the Plumcots I've tasted were pretty bland and tastless, though once or twice I got a good apricotty tasting one. The Montrose Apricot is pretty reliable in marginal apricot areas and does indeed taste like an Apricot.

Noogy, the Mishirusu pear was excellent and it is the same as the one in Raintree that's where I got the tree from. That pear in the photo was by far the best asian pear I ever had and I grow bushels of great tasting ones.

I also grow Mishirasu pear and i like it a lot better then most asian pear. When they ripened they turn darker, they are sure big pears, need to be supported if you don't thinned them.My Warren pear is suppose to be a troublefree pear, i usely do not spray them.Last year had about 20 for the first time after 8 years(worth the wayt).I also love my Rescue pear.all keepers.Mishirasu does have fireblight issues in my wooded area.I usely keep an eye out in the spring for black branches, cut them and dispose in sealed plastic bag for garbage pick-up.

Aceman- It's great to hear Mishirasu is good. It's next on my list.

| this is my best hybrid creation to date. I call it Richard Walden, a red seedless type.

Wow! Absolutely beautiful color, nice photo. I see you pruned the leaf to let the light hit it. Mmmmm. I'd eat them. My canadice fruited, albeit poorly, as did my Interlaken. So far, the buffalo produced about 8lbs, and it's the same age. I dont mind the seeds. I have to figure out more efficient trellis, as I have Canadice and Interlaken E-West, and should be N-S. I might actually dig out the vines and move them to a more suitable area.
