My local nursery has some left-over fruit trees (from Hollybrook) for sale. The regular price is $38 and it is 40% off. So the sale price is $23. I believe this is cheaper than the regular prices for fruit trees at Home Depot and Lowe's. Correct? All the trees are container trees and they look fine. I know they do not have a lot of selections, but the trees are good for our climate and they have been in business for a long time and know our climate. So should I grab more trees, or I should wait until spring time? If I plant the trees right now, I may get some fruits next year. I'm not sure if the trees planted in spring can set good fruits.

I asked a similar question last week. Basically what I was told was that the fall is a good time to plant container trees and allows them to get established come spring time. The fact that they are sold at your local nursery is probably a good indication that they are suitable for your area. As long as they are the varieties and sizes you are looking for and as long as they look healthy I'd say go for it.

In one of Tom Spellman's videos here said " the best time to plant a tree was 5 years ago" meaning do it now dont wait. Of course there are more ideal times of the year but dont wait longer than you have to. I planted 2 peaches last fall that i got on sale and I planted more trees this spring. If someone didnt know they couldnt tell the difference. What time of year you plant will just change how you care for it. Heat of the summer you will need to water more, fall and spring not so much.
