apple black core...

Apples on two trees have nice large fruits , no worms but the core/center has a black 'mold-like'material....

any idea what this could be & what I should have done to prevent it? Fuji & Jonathan are mostly OK but the ? Haralson has it especially bad!

Been a very hot,dry year here.

Most likely codling moth. The "worm" may have left already.

would this leave no apparent worm hole/entrance on the outside?
