Here is the fruit - berries are very small, the coin is a dime.

I've always found the farm raised berries to be large, juicy and tasteless. It is always the smaller wild ones that have the most flavor for making ice cream. However, environmental conditions at the time of fruit maturity probably contributes the most to flavor in both situations. Chances are, berries off the same plants next year will taste different.

They are black raspberries, so they grow the cane in year one, then grow the berries on those canes in year two. It's not an every other year crop, you have new ones start each year.

This many berries that all look and taste the same, I would not expect any significant improvement. I would get rid of them. If you want to have raspberries there are some really good varieties to be had people on this forum can make recommendations. I have had some awesome blacks but cannot remember the variety.

Reds are a bit easier to grow since they are single year canes. Birds leave them alone and so do most other pests.

I was to remove them, just didn't want to before checking. There are only few plants, and yes, lots of berries but not much taste.

cckw, I thought that birds really like reds - good to know. I do have couple of reds (still in pots). They are very small plants, but berries were much sweeter and bigger.
