Wait until after leaf fall, but before really cold temps (say below 20 degrees). It will be dormant, so no light is necessary. It should be kept cool and moist, but not wet. While dormant it should be able to take temps down into the teens.

In spring, it needs to be in a bright frost free situation as soon as it comes out of dormancy (this will likely happen before your average last frost date). If leaves are allowed to develop in the dark they will fry when you move it into the sun, unless you do it gradually.

I've found poms easy to grow this way, but the hard part is getting the fruit to ripen in time, unless you have a long hot growing season or a very early ripening variety.
