FWIW my strategy this year was to prune a branch when it seemed too long, and not to adhere to any hard and fast rules. Will see how it goes. That was on younger plants that havn't produced much fruit yet, but are growing like weeds. On the other hand, the mature 5 and 6 yo bushes are late like you said, and just finished producing. They have NO new growth (or very little at best) at all this year, so nothing to prune.

I have done light pruning on blueberry shrubs in the summer and fall, as required, if a branch was damaged or diseased. However, the heavy pruning of up to 20% of branches is always done in late winter, around March 1.
