| Two of my favorite sellers to buy unique varieties from are http://www.hhwildplums.com and http://www.svnursery.com/. The idea of growing plants that not everyone grows does not keep me from trying it. It's getting harder to find people that offer unique wild varieties of plants. When I'm doing a larger order I usually go through http://www.byronnursery.com/BareRootPlants2.html or http://www.lawyernursery.com/. They all carry different items. Where do you buy unique varieties of plants? |
Follow-Up Postings:

| Oikos Tree crops has interesting stock, mostly seed grown. Reasonable prices for bundles of smaller started plants. |

| Bradybb recently posted these links that I found most interesting: http://www.nativnurseries.com/ http://www.mailordernatives.com/servlet/StoreFront |

| Great websites there is all kinds of stuff I was looking for on those! Thanks |
|
| Yeah many interesting sites out there. I didn't order from all i listed, but have from most. |
|
| Have been buying stuff from Ken at OIKOS for nearly 2 decades. He's got stuff you'll likely not find anywhere else. The Wildlife Group has some interesting fruit & nut trees that might be right up your alley, Clark. www.wildlifegroup.com |

| He's got stuff you'll likely not find anywhere else. Ditto with the nurseries I listed. I know of more too, but more specialized like for apples, heirloom fruit trees etc. |

| Do any of these nurseries sell mongolian cherry (prunus fruticosa)? |
|
| Itheweatherman I won't have a chance to research it but for bush cherries I would check hartmanns nursery and edible landscaping. Both have websites and carry rare bush cherries such as white Nanking, Joel, joy , jan etc. The last time I looked for that variety it was common in Canada but not the USA. As you are likely aware we do not have many of the romance series bush cherries and others available elsewhere. |
|
| Itheweatherman you are likely aware that carmine jewell and the romance series cherries are a hybrid of Prunus cerasus and prunus fruticosa. The seedlings of carmine jewell would likely grow the two seperate species if they are not sterile and if they are not patented in some way. For those not familiar with the variety prunus fruticosa see this article http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/trees/handbook/th-3-9.pdf. The romance series plants available in the usa can be obtained here http://honeyberryusa.com/honeyberry-plants-2.html among other places. The mongolian cherry is readily available in Canada from sources such as this one http://www.selectseedlingnursery.com/cherry.html for those that live in Canada. I did get a chance to search for the mongolian cherry again and do not find it offered from any sources I'm familiar with in the USA ; however it is growing in the USA http://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?symbol=PRFR2. Not all of the USASK cherries are available yet but more are being released soon. See this article for additional information about the cherries http://www.fruit.usask.ca/dwarfsourcherries.html. |

| Went ahead and ordered a bundle of pears from Oikos http://www.oikostreecrops.com/Edible-Fruits/Wild-Pears/ECOS-Pear/p-68-87-134/. I was looking for genetic diversity and inexpensive price and these pears fit the need. Wildlifegroup.com has very unique varieties I'm still looking them over. Thanks for all the links! |
