When picking late season raspberries be on the look out for the larvae of this insect. Nasty fly that lays eggs in ripening fruit and thus rendering the harvest useless.
After many years growing berries they have found my patch this Fall.

Yup..its hit or miss here...we picked a bunch of caroline berries yesterday (they are huge this year)...a few had the larvae in them..i was looking at all of them...it seems like the infested ones are always mushy..may have holes in them. I haven't noticed them in my golden raspberries.

You can easily build a trap for them using a plastic cup and apple cider vinegar.

Frank, I agree. None of my Kiwi have SWD, and I'm not sure that my Caroline has them either. Are they pics. of the SWD larvae in the berries? Or is that just a google away? Mrs. G

Just checked google, and nope I do not have SWD, thank goodness. My Carolines are as nice and tart as ever. Mrs. G

I found my first ever suspected SWD in a single Jaclyn raspberry on September 7th. I put the berry in a plastic bag and watched as the larva pupated and the flies emerged a few days ago. I put the bag in the freezer to kill them and sent them off to the university for verification. Luckily that's the only berry (out of about 2.5 gallons) that has had any obvious signs of SWD so far.
