My crabapple tree always gives us a large crop, and this year is no exception. However in addition to the fruit I just noticed that we have lots of flowers. The flowers are only on the south-west side of the tree. I've never seen this (or any) crabapple tree flower a second time, any thoughts or explanations? I live in utah, and we have had more rain than usual over the past month. Thanks.

Rain after drought, pruning, etc can cause fall bloom. Usually it's only a small fraction of total fruit buds and doesn't affect next yrs crop.

Thanks. Makes sense on molecular level too. Flowering time and stress responses use epigenetics changes.

Last yeat I had one of my apple trees do the same thing. It put on a few apples but they froze before they got any size. It didn't seem to effect it this year.
