Ammonium Sulfate Mix PH - Blueberries

The well water I have has a PH of 6.8 and it comes out somewhat on the cold side. Does the temperature of the water affect the PH? . I did not think so, but the PH meter said that it adjusted to a particular temp.

I know that the specific gravity of a water solution changes with temp but was not aware that temp also has an effect on PH.

It took 13 drops of battery strength sulfuric acid to bring the pH down to 4.9 when I let the water sit and reach 70 degrees. Would it make a difference if the water was at 40 degrees.

ALSO, I am sure that adding the ammonium sulfate also has an effect on the PH, but is it material?

Thanx

Mike

I don't think temperature will have much effect on water pH but might on your instrument. If you acidify well water the pH will tend to rise for a couple days afterwards. According to link below.

I don't think ammonium sulfate affects water pH when dissolved. The lowering of pH occurs as the ammonia reacts in the soil and is taken up by the plant. I don't know all the chemistry but that's my understanding.

If you want to understand more read the attached link. It's very good.
