If they're falling from the tree, you should pick them now, frost or no frost. Probably should have picked them earlier. Most pears need to ripen off the tree, lose quality when left too long.

32 certainly won't hurt and neither will upper 20s. Lower 20s might. I'm sure you know that most pears need to be picked before they are ripe. Then into cold storage before ripening.

What variety are they and are the seeds brown yet? When have you picked in the past?

I did not know they needed to be picked before they're ripe! They are my neighbor's across the street and this is the first year I've gotten permission officially to pick from the tree -- in the past I've only picked what fell, to be polite. This year he insists I pick all I want from the tree.
