So, I started to get slack cause I hadn't seen SWD's yet this season. I'd been netting individual berry clusters on my blackberries but between vacation and just being busy with work I wasn't able to get some clusters covered as they ripened or monitor for the SWDs well. So the good news is, other than one bunch that had a hole in the netting (which I must say acted as a good SWD trap, it was filled with them), not a single berry that's been netted had any maggots. I have a lot of still very green berries and rock hard just starting to turn pink berries, so I got more netting to do. Bad news is I'm going through and bagging and general cleanup of infested fruit and anything starting to ripen that wasn't covered. I also found them on a basket of everbearing strawberries. Hate these bastards.

I found them here in SW NE for the first time a couple weeks ago. Mine were the first ones recorded by UNL in this county.

They came late here this year too, just started showing up a week or two ago. I think it's late enough that they won't build to the massive infestation we saw last year

Still not sure if i should even monkey with late raspberries like Caroline... i think i need something earlier... covering them will be a pain...probably rip them out and try something else in the future. I'm pretty sure i've ate a few of the larvae...i think i know what to look for now! protein! yum!

Our raspberry patch was free of SWD, this year, 'till Wednesday, September 3. This weekend the patch will be cut down and composted.
