chalk for ants

I read in this book I bought that putting a two inch band of kids chalk around the trunk of the tree will keeps ants off. 24 hours later, one chalk line intact and working. The other had a one inch hiway thru the chalk where it looked like the chalk got rubbed off. I rechalked and will check later.

Tim. I'm not sure how to get the most good out of this information but it is interesting. My grands will think that I've lost my mind when I let them write on my tree trunks. Please do a followup. Thanks, Bill
