The home grower trellis consists of a wire about 5' high that you will run the vine along in any way you like. When you are pruning in late winter average one bud every two inches of wire length and you will get a good ratio of shoots. End of story. There are lots of fancy training techniques but I don't think they are worth the effort for the casual home grower.
