What kind of fruit looks like lychee?

I saw some fruit on a small 8 to 10 foot tree in WV. The reddish, round fruit looked like lychee, but it did not have a big central seed in it. The flesh looked kinda reddish / golden with 3 small chambers or demarcations in it.

Fruit is about 1 inch in diameter and seems to be ripe or maybe overripe this time of year. The scaling was very close to lychee but just slightly less bumps. I tasted it and it was sweet, but I did not want to eat it without knowing what it is.

Yep that is it. I didn't try them that much, just stuck my tongue on the pulp. Have you tried it? And thanks for the IDing.

Squirrels love them. People don't
