watermelons overheating?

Hi -- it's our first year growing Crimson Sweet Watermelons and we have about 10 good-sized melons growing just fine. However, during this past week's extreme heat wave, one of the bigger ones turned yellow all over, cracked, and a sugary foam was oozing out of it! Has anyone experienced this?

The leaves and vines are still quite healthy and growing, the other melons seem to be okay (though one is also turning yellow). I water once daily, not too much.

Did this sucker just cook in the heat? Or did it get overripe? Thanks in advance!

RE: watermelons overheating?

Heat gives them a sunburned look on the most exposed part of the melon. That one somehow became infected through a crack or defect. It is rotting on the inside.

Are you sure that's a watermelon. Looks more like a honeydew or something of that type.
