Braeburn Apple Flowering in September?

In early spring my neighbor planted a Braeburn apple tree. It grew fine and is now flowering in September? Is it lost and think that it is still in the southern hemisphere? I don't get it.

It'll be OK. Fruit trees sometimes do that especially if the tree gets stressed, say by drought, and then growing conditions improve in fall.
