Medfly here to stay

The press release below is a month old so some of you may have already read about it, but I thought I post it here anyway.

California has given up eradicating the Medfly, so it will be just a matter of time before it's ubiquitous across the U.S.

I believe this pest is supposed to be every bit as bad or worse than SWD. I wonder how this will affect fruit growing in the U.S., particularly CA where so much fruit is grown.

I would think this would be a disaster for CA, but I would have thought the same about SWD. Yet the CA fruit industry seems to be coping just fine with SWD.

Other than Axel, I don't recall any other CA GardenWeb members mention any problem with SWD. Seems like the Midwest is having most of the problems with SWD

Maybe CA is dry enough even fruit flies move to places where there is more rain.

Here is a link that might be useful: Medfly and other fruit flies entrenched in CA
