Seeking advice on proper use

Let me start by saying that I have never used dormant oil and from what I read it can damage my trees if not used correctly. According to the instructions on the label it says to not use above 90 degrees and doesn't mention a low temperature. The mix rate is listed as 3 fl oz per gal of water. It also says to spray in the afternoon or morning. Im assuming that this product should only be used during the plants dormant period. I would like to use this product on my apple and pear trees. Please advise me with your experience using dormant oil. Any and all comments are welcome.

I think we need to know what you want to use the product for.

Part of my problem is that I'm not sure what all the benefits of this spray are. My initial intentions was to use it for scale, mites, and pear psylla.

I use it every winter in my greenhouse for scale, spider mites, white flies, and to lesser extent aphids. Also use all seasons oil during the growing season for the same pests. But that can mark the fruits so try not to spray fruits like blueberry and pluots that can end up with dark spots on the skin of fruit.

Those are good targets for it, as well as aphids, which is mostly why I spray it. I go out on a warmish day in late Feb or March, and it seems to be effective against aphids when used at that time.

Thanks for your help. Can the all season oil be used instead of the dormant oil or do I need to use both?

I use dormant oil only when trees are leaf free. The all seasons oil could be used any time of yr. But there are restrictions for safety purposes. I just sprayed all seasons on young sweet peas and damaged some leaves. Read the label.

If I recall correctly there was a good discussion here a couple/three years ago on the subject. You might search the forum for it.

I've never sprayed dormant sprays either champs, but I've purchased some Volk oil spray for this dormant season. I see your product is paraffinic oil, the Volk is 97% petroleum oil. Seems like the addition of paraffin would be better. I've never really had any issue with mites or aphids maybe because I spray a lot of sulfur.
I got the Volk off a clearance table at Lowe's and thought I'd give it a try.
As far as I know, the whole reason for dormant oil is just for mites etc...is that right?
