Oikos Pears - Target fruit

Received my order of 25 wild pears from Oikos yesterday. They looked pretty good and I will give you an update as they grow out. The total with shipping was around $48. If you are interested in growing some diversity for the wildlife like I am or maybe you want to grow them out and see what you have and graft over the bad ones they would be good for that to. I consider them target fruit to plant around the pond. A raccoon or deer with a full belly is not very motivated to leave their pears and water close by to come and steal some of mine. Anyone else grow target fruit? I also grow mulberries so my Bblackberry, raspberry, currant and cherry crop is safe. Some animal (im assuming)liberated 3 of my Asian pears this year and 3 of my apples of new varieties. I felt it was time to plant something to keep them busy. I've never had much luck with fall planting but these are tough wild trees so I sure hope they make it.
