| I have two different species of fig trees but they must not be suited to the Northern Virginia area because last year they did not get ripe before the first freeze. If I pick them before the first freeze, can they be ripened inside? If so how? |
Follow-Up Postings:
|
| Charlie: They will not ripen if picked green. There are techniques to speed ripening like putting a drop of oil into the eye. But that will come with reduced fruit quality. Heat and sun are the only good ripening agents. |

| Charlie, I have Brown Turkey and Hardy Chicago here in Omaha. I have been eating them in the last two weeks. You may give them a try there. Tony |

| Charlie, Research the pinching technique. It will allow you to get those figs to ripen in your climate NEXT year.....sadly nothing you can do about the fruit this year. |
|
| Most of my varieties will not ripen this year, as the season is almost over. Those that did at least some of their crop are Texas Everbearing, Yellow Neches, Barnisotte, Chicago Hardy, Fico Preto, Trojano, Italian Honey, Ischia Black and Brown Turkey. |
