Two bareroot cherry trees in one container?

Hi,

I am really curious how the ultra-high density fruit planting works.

- Can I plant two dwarf sweet cherry on G5 trees in same container? (15 gallon)
- If both trees are purchased as bareroot, what do I need to do to the roots to fit into one container? Can the roots overlap each other?
- Can you share your experience or any tips?

Thank you very much

Alex

That will work. I've had three nectarines in a 12 gallon and all fruited starting 2nd leaf. I can pull up pic if you like but I've already posted several times so don't want to bore folks.

G5 works well in a pot because root growth is fairly slow. I had Van and Rainier in 12 gal 5 yrs and then sold the trees for $50 each so they still looked good. Full truth: A nursery sold them for $100 each and I got $50. Too much but I won't complain.

Leave as much root as fits comfortably and don't worry about overlap. Within a yr you won't be able to separate no matter what you do. Trees can be held to about 5ft easily.

Alex

I used both 21-0-0, a complete water soluable, complete controlled release, and fresh green summer pruning material. So lots of things will work. I mostly used what I had. Vigor was good, just what I wanted.
