| Hello,
I have 7 fruit trees in my yard and I'm wondering if I should do anything before it gets too cold to ensure optimum growth in the spring. Two of the trees are dwarf peach planted in Nov '11. I didn't do anything for them after planting them and they seem to be doing well. The other 5 trees are: 2 plums, 2 cherries and one nectarine. They are all very small and were planted this summer. I'm in northern Ohio (zone 5). Should I do any pruning and/or fertilizing now? Should I do anything to protect them from the winter? Thanks in advance for any feedback. |

| Hello, The Nectarine will probably benefit from sprays of Copper or Chlorothalonil to help retard Peach Leaf Curl.Once before all the leaves fall and again in late Winter and very early Spring.Chlorothalonil can also be used on the Plum trees. No fertilizer is needed until next Spring. Brady |

| Be sure to prune out any dead, broken wood -it's easier to see green wood-brown/dead wood .. Also, rake and depose of any dropped fruit. |

| If you haven't already done so, paint the trunks white and then put some hardware cloth around them to protect from rabbits. Or you can put the plastic spiral wraps around them, but then be sure to remove them again in the spring. If deer might be a problem, a 6 foot cylinder of fencing would need to go around them. I know it can be a pain to do, but better safe than sorry. Northwoodswis |
