| Hello! I'm wondering if anyone here can help me. I recently moved from a tiny house with a tiny garden to an apartment with a balcony. All my plants were in pots and thriving, but one really has not taken so well to the move, and that's my whitecurrant, 'Versailles' variety.
Basically, the leaves have been picked bare, just leaving the main vein branches. This started after I moved. The other plants are generally fine (though the boysenberry next to it has a few leaves like this). The only thing I can think is that there are a LOT of Tilia / Lime / Linden trees on my street and perhaps the gross sap that they vomit out has damaged my plant. Although if that was the case, why is everything fine?! I don't get it. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful! Thank you! |

| Gooseberry Sawfly will do that to currants. Google up some info and see if that is what you have. It affects members of the Grossulariaceae ie currants and gooseberries. Most pests and diseases are pretty host specific and this one will not affect plants in other families. Next year keep a close eye on the bush and pick off any caterpillars as soon as you see them. With only one bush that should be sufficient to control it, if it returns. BTW the 'gross sap' from the lime trees is 'honeydew' ie aphid poo. Limes get lots of aphids and this is the result. Unfortunately it encourages a black mould as well. It will not have any effect on your currant. |
