growing pomegranates in containers

I've purchased two 'State Fair' pomegranates that are quite small in 3.5" containers. Would it be alright to grow them for a year in 10 gallons smart pots before putting them in the ground? I'm not sure how well or poorly they respond to transplant shock.

From my experience that would be fine. I had some I grew from cuttings in pots for a year then they went in the ground for a year or two, then back into pots no problem.
