I asked a similar question in 2012 and got those with experience to share their opinions. I started this year with Nikita's Gift and may order another persimmon for next spring

I don't think Fuyu will survive our zone without protection. If we have the winter like last year, even Nikita's Gift may need protection to survive, too.

I don't think I have energy or determination to protect my trees the way Tony does. He's the gold standard of winter protection.

I had some back and forth with persimmon. I was going to plant a couple of them. Then I realized that they are only borderline hardy, which is what I want to avoid. It is still tempting that some says it is easy to grow persimmon.

I'll need to think about it before I send in any order. I'm also planting asian pears and apples in the same area....

Have had Ichi, Hana Fuyu, Maekawa Jiro, Hachiya, and various other kakis survive for several years (or more), with some fruiting along the way... but most have struggled and eventually died out. Some are still here, but not exactly vigorous. If I were limited for space, they'd probably be gone and replaced by something a bit more reliable.
Rosseyanka(D.v.XD.k. hybrid) & Saijo are bomb-proof, though twig girdlers hit Saijo hard in my orchard, every year - but I'm not sure that that's relatable to the cultivar.

Thank you for your input. Your statement "but most have struggled and eventually died out." makes me pause.

It's bad enough to have trees die of diseases. It's worse to see they die because I try to push an envelop!!

How does Saijo and Rosseyanka taste, please?
