Advice on pruning Shinseiki Asian Pear

Hi everyone!

Tree was planted this year around March. It basically just grew straight up. I am not sure if I prune, pin branches down or just leave it alone until next year. If anyone could offer advice I would appreciate it greatly.

Oh the rootstock is OHxF333.
Thanks

Jennifer

I just let it be. The leader will send out lateral branches next year. Asian pear tend to grow straight up.

Puggylover,
Start bending down new growth to widen angles so you get better sun exposure. Nice looking plants. Make sure they're well watered.

Nice tree, here is something I found about planting a bare root tree:

Before planting we very strongly suggest that you prune your bareroot plant.

all branches should be pruned back to a lateral bud, removing the terminal bud causes the plant to foliate more quickly across the entire branch, not just the terminal end.

prune for structure

I like the trees. I also planted two in March, Hosui and Shenko(?). Mine look like yours and have grown straight up. This winter I only pruned a lateral that was too low on the trunk. I intend to prune in later years just as I would an english pear.
