Pomegranate advice needed

I have been searching for the answer to this problem, but haven't found anything.
My pomegranate tree is over 5 years and this year made some big and great looking fruit. But when opened, the kernels are pale, not red. Someone at work brought some in from their tree, and the kernels were dark red and the taste wonderful.
Pomegranates do well here in Phoenix, but I need to know why mine is not producing red kernels.
Anyone?

Are the arils sweet? Not all poms make red arils....some make pink, some white and some yellow. Do you know what variety you have?
