Frost brings on nice fall color on pawpaw tree

Yesterday, the pawpaws in my back yard had bright yellow leaves. Last night we had a pretty hard frost, and a lot of the leaves took on a nice orange color!

Nice alexander.I've only seen them with light yellow leaves in the Fall. Are the smaller plants between them,Pawpaw also?Did those in the picture produce fruit? Brady

The smaller plants are 1) a small plum tree that I'm letting grow temporarily just to push some woody roots through my heavy clay soil, and 2) some kind of volunteer raspberry type plant. There is also a varied herbaceous understory that's not really evident in the picture.

What looks like three pawpaw trees in the picture is actually three clusters of 4. They were all started from seed. The idea is to pic the best tree from each cluster (based on the fruit) and cull the rest. A few of these trees flowered this spring, one set a few fruit, but something took them well before they were ripe, probably a squirrel. All 12 set flower buds this summer, so I should get some fruit next year.
