'Bonus' blueberry cultivar

Has anybody had experience growing the blueberry variety Bonus? They make an extremely large berry and would be outstanding for u-pick. The only problem I'm having is 100% of the Bonus plants I planted in 2008 are struggling, and they are planted right next to three other varieties, all of which are doing quite well.

I didnt notice anything out of the norm for planting and growing instructions, water well, dont over-fertilize. It also, just may not be suited to the soil into which it was planted. Some like sand some like clay, or at least tolerate it.

Hardiness zone 3
Maximum height 1,5m / 5'
Maximum width 1,25m / 4'
Exposure Sun
Notes : From Michigan State University, U.S. a mid-late new variety with the largest blueberry on the market today. We were really amazed by the size of his fruits. Self-pollinating.

Its a new variety

"Bonus shows promise as a large fruited, late type, but is little tested."

"Very good hardiness and very good productivity. Bushes are vigorous and fruit is very large, very firm, medium blue with very good flavour. This bush has the largest blueberries we have ever seen. 'Bonus' blueberries are quarter to half-dollar size. Largest blueberry on the market today."

more info.

Where did you get your Bonus plants from? I have some Chandler plants but wouldn't mind trying a couple of Bonous plants.

RE: 'Bonus' blueberry cultivar

I planted a Bonus from DeGrandchamps on my property several years ago. It plugged in nicely. I also installed 4 other Bonus plants in various sites and never observed any problems with them.

Elliot is my slow grower. It's a really good cultivar for a u-pick if you want to extend the late season for a month over other lates. But it is a slow establisher.

RE: 'Bonus' blueberry cultivar

Bonus is a good variety for Mid-season. I love to plant some Elliot for late season production. We like to eat fresh blueberry and in the High season we have Blueberry coming out from our ears then suddenly none. I think Elliot will give us a late season supply.
