Hello all, Just picked my first crop of pomegranates, parfianka variety, and noticed that the arials (sp?) are rather light in color and not deep red like you see in the Wonderful variety. The fruit tastes good but doesn't have the punch that I'm accustomed to with pomegranate. Do I have the right variety? I purchased it mail order through a very reputable mail order company. The tree is about 4 - 5' tall, vigorous and absolutely loaded with fruit. Any help would be appreciated,

You need to give a fruit tree a few years to settle in with proper care, pruning, etc, before you make your final analysis. White arils usually means that the pom was harvested a little early. They can still be sweet at that stage, just not full flavored. Most poms are dead ripe when there isn't any green areas, the color is deep and dark but a little dull, and the shape is blocky, not fully round.

I agree, poms take longer than most fruit to really get in their element in terms of flavor. It's probably a little of both--picking underripe and that the tree still needs some time to start giving you awesome fruit. Then IDing it shouldn't be too tough.
