Avocado tree in New England

Barracuz

Hey there folks, New to to the forum but I do have some gardening knowledge working in a landscape business and helping out at my grandmother's nursery down in Guatemala whenever I travel south.

So earlier this year (March 2014) after having dinner I planted a couple of avocado seeds in a planter. Now I have a foot and half tall plant.

Winter will be here soon and I'm wondering if there are things I can do to help it stay green and strong.

My house has pear trees and oaks all around and we only manage a couple of hours worth of sunrays in the home during the winter.
