I'm looking to buy a few almond and hazelnut trees. Any recommendations on where to buy them and/or what varieties? I'm in zone 6b in southwest Indiana. Thank you!

For hazelnuts your far enough south to use the blight resitant hybrids out of OSU. I think there are several mail order sources. hopefully someone else can expand on that.

You might be too cold for the real almonds. I have an All-In-One, and I might be too cold here for it, really. It bloomed last year, and man do they bloom early! It's OK if mine doesn't bear, because I love it as an ornamental. I'll let y'all know if it ever does bear, though! This summer would have stayed warm enough for it. We still aren't cold at all. It is healthy. I have it in a dry spot, and it's happy. It's still young and only had a few blooms so far. My hazelnuts are young, too. They are very easy to grow, I think. I just went with the American species that is immune to the blight, but I have read that the hybrids are bigger/better. I'll probably put some of those in, too :) Just match the pollination times with the hybrids. I don't know any more about them than that. There is a Hall's Hardy Almond that you can read about, but I don't have that and have never tried a nut from it. Good luck!

Their are some almonds hybrids you can grow in zone 6. Raintree has some. Many places sell hazelnuts, check out Edible Landscaping, Raintree, and One Green World. All of these are fairly decent nurseries. One Green World has sent me some very impressive plants.
