Does anyone know if the King Apple never has seeds? I was told that this was a way to identify the Tompkins County King variety. I have what I thought was a King apple, but it has seeds.

My friend has a King apple orchard here on the coast. They do have seeds.

Cedar...is it possible the idea of it not having seeds arose from the fact it is triploid? I've never heard of an apple without seeds although I'm not doubting it's possibility or existence.

I grafted this variety this year for my brother. What can you all tell me about the apple flavor and etc.

RE: King Apple

I was certain that this apple was a Tompkins County King because I grafted the tree for a school garden. The apple is very large, juicy and sweet flavor. The tree is a heavy annual bearer and ripens in early October in western WA. It allows the kids to learn a little patience to have the fruit ripen and admire the large apples before eating them. They picked about 100 lbs off this tree. They did not keep for long.
The person identifying was so sure that King did not have seeds and he insisted that Kings had no seeds.

Maybe that person was right. It could also be that they were mistaken, or that the last one they ate had no seeds or very small irrelevant seeds. I am thinking that something so remarkable as that would likely be found online or in descriptions of the apple, but I cannot find anything like that.
If you find out anything let us know. Interesting for sure.
